Start Your Day The Right Way
In a "perfect world", I would have all the time I needed and I could check off all the things on my list and most likely have time to spare. But we don't live in a perfect world. We get sidetracked and sh!t happens. Unexpected calls, emails, or meetings that require our attention take the spotlight.
Most days, from the moment I wake up to the second I lay my head on my pillow, my mind is actively engaged. I see the sun peeking through the curtains in the morning and think, "today is the day!" Like most people, I have a to-do list so that I can manage my time and maximize productivity while I'm awake. But I haven't always been that way.
Over the last decade or so, I have tried and tested many different methods for efficacy in time management to aid in getting things done. In a nutshell, they all pretty much result around extensive planning. Starting your day with the toughest, longest, or least liked task, being most popular. Now, think about that last sentence for a minute. It can breed anxiety, depression, frustration, and even hatred. Who willingly wants to start their brand new, blessed day like that?
I'm about to share with you the first step to start your day the right way, which took me years to realize. It makes brushing your teeth look hard. So here it is. Are you ready for it? The most important concept I learned to apply to my everyday life, and feel should always be at the forefront, is the pursuit of a happy and healthy mindset. Take a look at my example:

After opening my eyes and stretching, before I get out of bed, I vocalize a positive morning affirmation. A simple one I use often is, "I have the power to make today great!"
There's a very important reason why the word 'vocalize' is in bold above. Saying something out loud so your ears can hear it has been proven through scientific studies to boost the serotonin in your brain, the chemical responsible for creating a feeling of well-being. The art of starting your day with grace and gratitude can cascade into the hours that follow. The human mind is a very powerful tool at our disposal that can have an effect on our physical self.
So, I challenge you to add this very doable practice to your schedule every morning before your feet touch the ground. It can be anything that starts with an "I" statement.

- I surround myself with peace
- I will not give up
- I can do anything I put my mind to with focus and determination
